About

We're not just another sports equipment company – we're ice hockey enthusiasts with a passion for innovation and a commitment to sustainability. Born in the heart of Switzerland, we've combined our love for the game with Swiss Made cutting-edge technology to create solutions that are changing the face of ice hockey. Our R&D team has spent years perfecting our products, collaborating with technical innovators, professional ice hockey teams and players that push the boundaries of athletic achievement.

When you choose Green Hockey, you're not just getting equipment; you're getting a partner dedicated to growing the sport we all love, in harmony with our planet.

The Real Story Behind the Reinvention of Ice Hockey

It all began when Alpo Suhonen – ice hockey professor, former Chicago Blackhawks coach, and championship maker with EHC Kloten and SC Bern – brought a Finnish hockey stick to our home shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak. He wanted to promote it, as China could no longer supply enough sticks at that time.

This situation clearly demonstrated how vulnerable our ice hockey supply chain truly is. We realized that the lack of sustainability would make it difficult to carry this wonderful sport into the next decade. In ice hockey, we consume enormous amounts of carbon, metal, textiles, water, and electricity. While other industries try to conserve resources, we play in overpriced „refrigerators. And pay more and more to find Ice time. It was time to reinvent ice hockey.

Green Hockey equipment development

From the original stick project emerged the first NHL-ready Green Hockey product: The "Nino Niederreiter - Black Ghost Carbonblade," which is lighter then all the Blades on the market and helps many players improve daily. The necessity to test this material, the expensive hourly rates for renting real ice, and the limited opportunities to do this year-round led us to synthetic ice as an alternative.

However, tests with conventional blades were very disappointing – no gliding ability and no body control were the result. Out of this necessity, SHARKBLADE® 01 was developed in collaboration with professors from the Institute for Materials Engineering and Plastics Processing (IWK) in Rapperswil, Ex Pro Hockey players and the Swiss metal industry.

The SHARKBLADE® led us to recycled Plastic Surface with Ocoundbound plastics that we call OCEANICE®, and OCEANICE® in turn led to the new gliding puck „The Greenly" – because here too, there was nothing suitable on the market. Today, we are the only company worldwide offering a holistic ice hockey package that allows the game to be played, expanded and grown for the first time in ice hockey history, regardless of climatic location, without complicated and expensive ice rinks, the same agility like real ice and without looking for real frozen Ice Time.

Sustainable hockey surface in action

The next generation will play ice hockey on two different surfaces – just one click, and the blades are ready for players who want to improve every day. The Surface, the Blade and the puck works together in one, giving the player the feel of real ice and the possibility to do repletion anywhere anytime. The Players and coaches can work on their mindset, and we work on the tools for them.

The NHL as our future partner underscores our professional approach and helps us distribute the fastest team sport to all corners of the world. Our Mission is very simple. Just Grow the game.

OUR MISSION 26

Mission 26 represents our ambitious commitment to construct 26 artificial ice rinks partially built from reclaimed ocean plastic. This groundbreaking initiative aims to remove approximately 300 tons of plastic from our oceans while saving around 512 tons of CO₂ with each full-size rink (1800 sqm).

But our vision extends far beyond these impressive numbers. These rinks will serve as community hubs, bringing the joy of ice hockey to regions where traditional rinks are impractical or impossible.
