From Winter Classic to Rooftop Rink — The Miami Story

Right now, students at SLAM School Miami are training with SHARKBLADES on OCEANICE. The same setup was part of the Winter Classic shortly before.
Let that sink in for a second.
How It All Started
Miami was something else. We showed up at Marlins Stadium, loaded up the OCEANICE panels, and spent two full days building our rink from scratch. By the time the Winter Classic kicked off, we were right in the middle of it all: fans, pro players, the full energy of one of hockey’s biggest events.
And then Swaggy P jumped in and gave it a try. One of those moments where you keep looking around thinking: is this actually happening?
The Pressure Was Real
We spent weeks organizing our involvement in the Winter Classic. The pressure was real. Being part of this major event with the entire hockey world paying attention. Years of development on the line.
It came together. Being part of the Winter Classic validated everything we’d been working toward. Our rink was right next to the main arena and quickly became one of the key spots of the whole event. A crazy ride, and we know there’s more ahead. But this was a big step forward. One we really needed.nes numerous components to replicate the feel of real ice. This breakthrough allows players to perform all traditional ice hockey techniques on synthetic surfaces.
But the Real Moment Came After
When it was over, you might think that was it. But we weren’t done.
We packed everything up and moved to SLAM School Miami. Then we used a crane to lift the panels about 50 meters up to a rooftop terrace and built the entire rink all over again.
And just like that, kids in Miami have a place to play hockey. Any day. Any time. Above their beautiful city.
Accessibility. That’s the word that matters the most.
It didn’t take long before people wanted to try it. Visitors every day, and even before the official opening, people were already strapping on their SHARKBLADES and skating.
In a way, it feels like the street hockey we all grew up playing. Just on a next-generation surface. That’s the best way to learn and practice: while having fun. No commute. No expensive ice time. No obstacles.
Principal Carlos O. Alvarez put it perfectly: «This will provide the first pro player out of our school.»
That’s the vision. The Winter Classic proved SHARKBLADES belong at the highest level. SLAM Miami proves we can break down the barriers that have kept the game out of reach: cost, distance to rinks, limited ice time.
Both define what we’re building. Together, they’re exactly why we started this.
This Is What Actually Changes Hockey
Not just proving technology works in elite settings. Making it available to everyone. The kids at SLAM Miami are training on the same surface that stood next to the main arena at the Winter Classic. That connection matters.
We have to think more sustainable. We have to lower the barriers. We have to think more growth and inclusion. Miami was a great starting point to create a new way of practicing and living hockey. In America and around the world.
Not just for Miami. For everywhere.
Let’s grow the game together! 💚🏒
