Summer Hockey Experience in Bern: Breaking Boundaries and Growing the Game

What an incredible week we’ve had at the PostFinance Arena in Bern! Our Summer Hockey Experience has wrapped up, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how everything unfolded.

Seeing elite U18 players competing at full intensity on our OCEANICE surface – with temperatures hovering around 30°C – was a powerful validation of what we’ve been working toward at Green Hockey. The skepticism we often encounter was quickly replaced by genuine amazement as players realized they could execute the same techniques they use on traditional ice.

«I didn’t expect to be able to do crossovers and quick turns like this,» one SCB Future player told us after his first game. This transformation from doubt to excitement is something we witnessed countless times throughout the week, and it never gets old.

A Community Coming Together

What made this event truly special was the partnership with SC Bern and Future Now. Together, we created something that was more than just a product demonstration – it became a vibrant hockey community space where families gathered, coaches exchanged ideas, and players of all ages discovered new possibilities.

The U18 OCEANICE Cup showcased the competitive potential of our technology, while the Laureus Charity Event with Roman Josi highlighted how hockey can be a force for positive change. Seeing Roman test out the SHARKBLADES and interact with young players was definitely a highlight for everyone involved.

Our Family Day brought everything full circle, as parents and children experienced OCEANICE together. Watching multiple generations share their love of hockey on our surface reinforced exactly why we do what we do.

Growing the Game – Our Core Mission

At Green Hockey, we’re driven by a simple belief: hockey should be accessible to everyone, everywhere, year-round. Traditional ice hockey faces significant barriers – seasonal limitations, geographic constraints, and substantial resource requirements. Our technology directly addresses these challenges.

During the event, a coach approached us to share how OCEANICE could transform his youth development program: «Having consistent training opportunities through summer would be game-changing for our players› development.» This is exactly the impact we’re aiming for.

By removing these traditional barriers, we’re opening the sport to communities that have historically been excluded. We’re enabling year-round skill development. We’re making hockey more sustainable. And perhaps most importantly, we’re preserving the pure joy that comes from gliding across the ice – even when there’s no ice at all.

Looking Forward

As we packed up our installation, conversations weren’t about if this technology works – they were about where it should go next. The overwhelmingly positive feedback confirms we’re on the right path.

To everyone who participated or visited – thank you. Special thanks to our partners at SC Bern and Future Now for their vision and collaboration. This event marks an important milestone, but it’s just one step in our journey to transform how and where hockey can be played.

Let’s grow the game together! 💚🏒
